Diving in the Galapagos Islands
Famous for their unique biodiversity and rich natural beauty, the Galapagos Islands are one of the most fascinating destinations for divers worldwide. The confluence of different hot and cold water streams creates a unique underwater world full of life here. Although you won’t find coral reefs there, the large basalt blocks of the seafloor are home to an incredible diversity of marine life. The nutrient-rich waters attract numerous fish, which in turn attract large predators such as sharks.
Highlights of the Galapagos
The northern islands of Darwin and Wolff are known for their large schools of hammerhead sharks, manta rays, dolphins and other large fish. You may also encounter sea lions, the Galapagos shark, and a wide variety of fish while diving in this area. Unique to diving in the Galapagos are encounters with marine iguanas and penguins – experiences you won’t have anywhere else in the world.
Diving the Galapagos: an Experience for Advanced Divers
Because of the strong currents and rugged underwater landscapes, diving in the Galapagos is mainly suitable for advanced divers. Divers should have completed a minimum of 50 dives, with some experience in drift and low visibility diving. But do not be discouraged by the challenge – the reward is a diving experience that cannot be matched!
