Diving in Saba • Complete Guide
Saba, known as “the Unspoiled Queen” and part of the Kingdom of the Netherlands, is a hidden gem in the Caribbean Sea. It is a small but pristine island rising from the sea like a green cone, with Mount Scenery as its highest point. Saba is of volcanic origin, which translates into spectacular, rugged underwater landscapes.
At EWDR, we offer diving trips with a stay on Saba as well as by liveaboard. The underwater world around Saba is rich in diverse life, including seahorses, tropical fish, groupers and nurse sharks, among others. There is also a healthy population of sea turtles and the opportunity for macro diving. Macro diving in Saba’s black sand lends itself perfectly to spotting unique marine animals, so don’t forget your camera!
The Saba Marine Park, established in 1987, ensures the preservation of the quality of this unique ecosystem. It was not created to restore a damaged marine life, but rather to ensure that the rich biodiversity is preserved.
Despite its limited size, Saba makes a great impression because of its unique personality. The island exudes a warm, friendly atmosphere and is endowed with an abundance of tropical flora. It is also home to a variety of terrestrial animals, such as goats, iguanas and several bird species. Moreover, there are four charming villages worth visiting. For the adventurous traveler, Saba offers a series of hiking trails that wind throughout the island, making it a popular destination for hiking enthusiasts.
