Buddy Trip to Zanzibar
Door: Mark van der Wal
Through EWDR, we from Diving Association Leeuwarden booked a trip to Zanzibar last year. With the goal of diving somewhere not many people have been! In consultation with EWDR, we opened up our trip as a Buddy trip. Unknown people were allowed to join us on a diving vacation to t faraway Zanzibar!
The more the merrier, and this was certainly true for our party of 6. From the very first moment we all had a good click, and the ice was broken. So it turned out that someone from our club and someone from the travel buddies actually already knew each other through mutual friends. How small can the world be at a time like this? 🙂 Also our 2nd travel buddy from Belgium was soon included in this ”vacation family”.
We saw and did a lot in Zanzibar, exchanged knowledge and improved diving skills. Rare fish seen and videotaped without us knowing 😉 haha you get to experience something! Dived a lot and also did some excursions above water.

As icing on the cake, during the dolphin tour, we came across a mother Humpback whale with young!!!!! 🙂 WOW what a magical moment this was! Everyone had goose bumps and adrenaline was coursing through t body. Emotions ran high, in the good sense of the word. For many, such a moment is THE TOP POINT of life. To witness something so majestic up close.
By meeting new people you are enriching the lives of yourself and another. So too with this trip, we gained a new club member and friend. Not to mention our Belgian ”sister” and power woman of the company.
Thank you Rianne and EWDR for making this beautiful trip possible, and bringing together people with the same beautiful passion: DIVING!
