Day 1 & 2 | The journey to Roatán, Honduras

Today the journey to Honduras begins. The trip takes an average of 25 to 31 hours and usually requires two stopovers. The most common routes are through the United States or sometimes through San Pedro Sula in Honduras. Depending on the flights, we will book an overnight stay near the airport for you, so you can rest at the end of the initial travel time and catch the flight to Roatán the next day.

Upon arrival at Roatán airport, a transfer will be waiting for you to take you to the luxurious Ibagari Boutique Hotel. The hotel is located in one of the best spots in Roatán: near West Bay Beach and on the lively West End street. The drive to the hotel takes about 30 minutes.

Ibagari is a small-scale hotel where a luxurious stay awaits you. In addition to the fine accommodations, the hotel has a restaurant with a Michelin Guide listing. You can eat your culinary heart out here!

On this trip you will dive the Mesoamerican Barrier Reef, the largest coral reef system in the Atlantic Ocean and the second largest in the world after the Great Barrier Reef in Australia. The reef stretches more than 1,000 kilometers along the coasts of four countries in the Caribbean Sea: Mexico, Belize, Guatemala and Honduras.

Around Roatán you will find a hugely diverse underwater world. Common marine life includes colorful reef fish (such as blennies, snappers, parrotfish), lionfish, moray eels, barracudas, seahorses and lobsters. Sea turtles, several species of rays, dolphins and sharks are also frequently spotted there during dives.

There are more than 60 dive sites around Roatán, so there are many places to explore on this trip. You will spend eight days diving, making at least two boat dives each day. You can divide the 20 dives from the package over the days as you like. The boat also sails out in the afternoon for an afternoon dive.

During the dives, you will discover an impressive mix of underwater landscapes and marine life. Think steep walls, colorful coral reefs, plateaus and wrecks, interspersed with swim-throughs and sand flats. A special experience is the optional shark dive, where you have the chance to see several Caribbean reef sharks in their natural habitat. This dive is not a standard part of the dive package, but you can always book in addition.

On the last day you will not be able to dive, but there is plenty to do on Roatán to end your trip on a beautiful note. The resort itself has a spa & wellness, where you can spend this day relaxing.

In addition, you also have plenty of time to explore the island on your own. You can go out on your own, for example to West Bay Beach and the surrounding area. There are also excursions possible to Cayos Cochinos and Utila, among others, with clear water, white sandy beaches and unspoiled nature.

So you’ll end your diving trip relaxed, with one last day to absorb the atmosphere of Roatán before returning home.

After nine unforgettable days of diving in enchanting Roatán, your diving vacation comes to an end. The memories of special encounters with dolphins, sharks and the colorful underwater world will hopefully stay with you for a long time.

On the last morning, you will have some time to enjoy the atmosphere on the island. For example, take a relaxing walk, enjoy the beach one last time or pick up one last souvenir. Then you will be taken to Roatán airport for your return trip. Often you fly via Miami, where you transfer to the flight to Europe.
