Group diving trip to Bali

Don’t you have any plans during Christmas this year? That’s convenient because we have a group trip planned to Bali from December 15 to December 29 .

During this Bali diving vacation, you will stay at the Ocean Sun Dive Resort. A lovely resort in the heart of Tulambem with pool and close to several cozy restaurants.

You will explore various dive spots including Nusa Penida, known for Manta Point where manta rays are regularly spotted, and in the right season Mola Molas! Other spots like Tulamben and Amed are ideal for underwater photography because of their remarkable macro-marine life and the famous Liberty Wreck. To make it complete, you will also go diving at Candidasa.

Of course, you will also explore Bali above water. There are 2 excursions on the schedule and at Christmas there is a BBQ evening.

The trip will be led by Michel & Pascale de Huu, who work for EWDR and spend several months a year in Bali. Michele and Pascale are both avid divers and know Bali like the back of their hand. So the ideal tour guides for this trip!

Rebreather: Good to know, you can also rebreather dive on this dive vacation with the Mares Horizon! This is a semi-closed rebreather. You can take a course here to dive with the Mares Horizon or, if you are already certified, rent one!

December 15 & 16 - Flight and arrival in Bali

Today you leave Europe for Bali. Depending on your starting point, you will be on the road for between 16 to 18 hours. To keep costs down, this is often with a stopover at Singapore or another hub. It is quite a flight, but once you arrive in Bali, you will already forget about that long journey.

Upon arrival at the airport, you will pick up a visa and be picked up after customs to drive to the Ocean Sun Dive resort. From the airport, it is still about 3.5 hours to the resort in Tulamben. Upon arrival, you check in and it’s time to relax. Should it still be fairly early, you can stop by the dive center right away for paperwork or to rent and try on dive equipment. The resort’s SSI dive center is within walking distance.

December 17 & 18 - Diving at Tulamben

We start this dive trip with two relaxing dive days in Tulamben, where you will make two boat dives each day at different locations, such as:

Coral Garden: An ideal dive site for all levels, rich in corals, tropical fish and artificial reefs, with depths up to 80 meters.

Alam Anda: This location, accessible via a short boat ride, offers stunning coral diversity and diverse marine life. The currents here are perfect for drift diving to the nearby Drop Off.

Drop-off: A shore dive site with an impressive wall, suitable for all levels. Here you will find rich coral growth, countless tropical fish and a chance to meet larger marine animals.

December 19 - Diving at Amed

Today you will be diving at Amed. Which dive sites it will be will be determined in consultation with the diving school. It could become the dive site “Gili Selang”. After a 40-minute car ride and 20 minutes of sailing on a traditional Balinese boat, you reach this place, sandwiched between beautiful beaches and steep cliffs. The reef is home to a diversity of corals, reef sharks and turtles. Of particular note are the vast staghorn coral fields, where millions of anthias sparkle in the sunlight. Float through the coral fields and look for dwarf seahorses among red and yellow sea fans. Despite the relatively shallow depth of the dive, the site offers excellent conditions for all levels of divers and reveals one of Bali’s most beautiful underwater landscapes.

December 20 - Excursion: Kintamani Tour

On this tour, you will explore the best tourist spots in the cooler mountain area of Kintamani and the village of Ubud. Visit the famous Batur volcano, Batur Lake, and the Tegalalang rice terraces.

You will also discover unique temples such as Gunung Kawi, Tirta Empul, and Goa Gajah, and taste the exclusive Luwak coffee.

Enjoy a spectacular swing experience and explore the Monkey Forest in Ubud.

December 21 - Wreck diving in Bali

Two wreck dives are scheduled today!

Liberty Wreck: The USS Liberty is one of the world’s best and most accessible wreck dives. The wreck lies about 40 meters from shore, with the shallowest parts at three meters and the deepest at nearly 30 meters. Parts of the ship, including the deck, superstructure and engine room, can be explored. The site offers rich vegetation and a diversity of fish species, providing plenty to see.

Boga Wreck: The Boga wreck, sunk in 2012, is Bali’s newest shipwreck. Originally a Dutch freighter 40 meters long, it now lies at a depth of 16-39 meters. The dive starts from a pebble beach and offers views of octopuses, nudibranchs, lobsters and corals. After a short swim, the bow of the Boga appears, and experienced divers can also explore the interior. The wreck contains interesting elements such as a steering wheel, used diving bottles, Buddha statues, the propeller and a VW car.

December 22 & 23 - Diving at Tulamben

Over the next two days we will make another 4 dives in Tulamben. The plan includes diving at Batu Kelebit. Batu K elebit is a beautiful dive site. With depths exceeding 60 meters and averaging 25 meters, moderate currents and visibility of 10 to 30 meters, it offers access by boat or at high tide from shore. Divers can enjoy impressive marine life such as giant Napoleon fish, eagle rays, White tip Reef Sharks, schools of Humphead Parrotfish, green turtles and scorpion fish, as well as a beautiful coral field and large black corals at 35 meters.

Another dive site on the schedule is Emerald. Emerald is a quiet dive site southeast of Tulamben Bay, accessible by a 5-minute boat ride. It has lighter sand and few divers. The reef slopes gradually from 12 to 30 meters in depth and has larger, pristine corals and sponges. Marine species such as sweetlips, puffer fish, octopus, stingrays and reef sharks can be seen, in addition to artificial structures such as a sunken table.

December 24 - Excursion: Sidemen

Over the next two days we will make another 4 dives in Tulamben. The plan includes diving at Batu Kelebit. Batu K elebit is a beautiful dive site. With depths exceeding 60 meters and averaging 25 meters, moderate currents and visibility of 10 to 30 meters, it offers access by boat or at high tide from shore. December 25 - Diving & BBQ Christmas Eve

It’s Christmas! That can only mean one thing; Christmas dives! And instead of a white Christmas, it will be a black Christmas – because we will be diving in the black sand of the Melasti dive site.

Melasti, located along the Seraya coast near Tulamben, is a fantastic muck dive site. The topography is simple with larger rocks in the shallows and black sand slopes, but closer inspection reveals small “oases” of marine life, such as harlequin shrimp. Major attractions include the unique nudibranchs “Donut Dorid” and “Shaun the Sheep.” In addition, divers may encounter animals such as anglerfish, gobies, ghost flounder, lionfish, scorpionfish, cuttlefish and octopus, with the wonderpus visible in the late afternoon.

We will close Christmas Day fittingly with a joint barbecue. Ho ho ho.

December 26 - Day trip to Nusa Penida

We ended this fantastic Christmas diving vacation in a big way with a day trip to Nusa Penida. Here you will find the dive site Manta Point on the south coast of Nusa Penida. This is a popular dive site that does take some time to get to. First, you drive about 75 minutes by car, on the way you will see the rice terraces of Tirta Gannga, among others. Then you sail by boat for another 50 minutes or so until you reach Manta Point.

Manta Point gets its name from the manta rays that get cleaned by cleaner fish here, but between July and October Mola Mola are also regularly seen here. Divers here have a great chance to see these majestic creatures up close, which is a unique experience. When there are no manta rays, the rocky seabed still offers rich biodiversity, including corals, tropical fish, bamboo sharks and stingrays, but most of the time there are manta rays and you will probably only be concerned with that.

December 27 - No-dive day! Time for a day of sightseeing in Bali or relaxing...

The beautiful diving vacation to Bali is almost over, today you have your no-dive day. That is the day before you fly, then you are not allowed to dive.

This day can be arranged as you see fit, some will opt for another fun excursion, while others may prefer to spend another day lounging by the pool.

The choice is yours.

December 28 & 29 - Back Home....

Today it is time to pack up and check out. You drive toward the airport, but not without taking a last look at the beautiful Balinese landscape unfolding before you during the drive. The lush green rice fields, azure waters and charming villages will become unforgettable memories. You catch the overnight flight back and arrive home the next day in the morning tired but fulfilled.
