The dry season, from January through May, is the best time for diving, as you’ll have the best underwater visibility during these months. Hurricane season runs from late August through mid-October, so we advise against traveling during that time.

Day 1 | The trip to Dominica
Today marks the start of your trip to Dominica! You’ll usually fly with one or two layovers, often via neighboring islands or via Paris and Guadeloupe/Martinique. The flight takes about 15 to 20 hours, but because of the time difference, you’ll likely arrive on the same day anyway.
Upon arrival at the airport, a shuttle will be waiting to take you to Jungle Bay. The ride takes about an hour and a half.
Jungle Bay is located on the southwest coast of Dominica, above the village of Soufrière. This map shows the best route to Jungle Bay from Douglas Charles Airport, via the capital, Roseau. You’ll travel right across the island, giving you a wonderful first impression.
After arriving at the resort, you can take your time unpacking, relax after your trip, and enjoy your first dinner.
Days 2–6 | Diving in the Soufrière Scotts Head Marine Reserve
The next five days will be entirely devoted to exploring Dominica’s spectacular underwater world. Every morning, you’ll go on two boat dives with Nature Island Dive in the protected Soufrière Scotts Head Marine Reserve, one of the most extraordinary diving areas in the Caribbean. Thanks to the dive center’s location, many dive sites are just a few minutes’ boat ride away.
Diving around Dominica is characterized by impressive volcanic formations. You’ll dive past steep walls, colorful reefs, volcanic pinnacles, canyons, swim-throughs, and spectacular drop-offs that sometimes plunge hundreds of meters into the depths. Many dive sites are located on the rim of an ancient underwater crater, creating a unique underwater topography that you won’t find anywhere else in the Caribbean.
The underwater life is also exceptionally diverse. During your dives, you may encounter schools of barracuda, sea turtles, moray eels, lobsters, octopuses, and countless tropical reef fish. The volcanic pinnacles and reef walls are also excellent spots to look for seahorses, anglerfish, shrimp, and other fascinating macro life. Large sponges, sea fans, black coral, and colorful corals grow on the walls, creating stunning wide-angle backdrops.
Possible dive sites where you’ll be diving include:
Champagne Reef: Dominica’s most famous dive site . Due to volcanic activity, thousands of tiny air bubbles rise from the seafloor, making it seem as if you’re diving through a glass of champagne. Amid the bubbles, you’ll find colorful reefs, parrotfish, trumpetfish, moray eels, and, quite often, sea turtles.
Scotts Head Pinnacle: An impressive volcanic pinnacle rising from the depths. Its steep walls are covered with sponges, corals, and large sea fans. Schools of reef fish, barracudas, and sea turtles are regularly spotted here.
Soufrière Pinnacles: A cluster of volcanic peaks rising from the seafloor. Due to the currents in the area, large schools of fish often gather here.
L’Abym: Volcanic ridges, gorges, and steep cliffs create a spectacular underwater landscape. In addition to colorful reefs, you can look forward to seeing sea turtles, seahorses, anglerfish, and other remarkable macro life here.
After the morning dives, you’ll usually be back around noon. The rest of the day is yours to enjoy as you wish. You can relax at Jungle Bay, enjoy the pool or spa, or take part in one of the many excursions organized by the resort. These include hikes to waterfalls, hot springs, or the tropical rainforest. This way, during this trip, you’ll discover not only Dominica’s spectacular underwater world but also its impressive natural beauty above water.

Dominica is called the “Nature Island of the Caribbean” because of its pristine and pure nature. The island is covered in dense rainforest, where rivers flow through the landscape and culminate in impressive waterfalls. Volcanic activity creates hot springs and rugged, varied terrain. Thanks to its rich biodiversity and barely degraded character, the island feels like one of the last truly wild places in the Caribbean.

Jungle Bay is a unique eco-resort on the southwest coast of Dominica, nestled in a tropical setting overlooking the Caribbean Sea. The resort spans over 7 hectares and is surrounded by tropical trees, colorful flowers, and more than a hundred varieties of fruit trees. Many of the ingredients for the meals come directly from the resort’s own gardens! In the restaurant, you can enjoy fresh, locally inspired dishes with a focus on healthy and sustainable products.
For relaxation, Jungle Bay features an extensive spa offering massages and wellness treatments, several yoga pavilions with panoramic views, and an infinity pool overlooking the ocean. In addition, activities are regularly organized, such as guided hikes, yoga classes, and excursions to the island’s natural highlights.
During this diving trip, you’ll stay in a Villa Room at Jungle Bay as part of the standard package. These charming rooms are scattered across the resort’s hilly grounds and are surrounded by tropical vegetation. With an area of approximately 37 m², they offer plenty of space for two people and serve as a comfortable base between dives and excursions. The rooms are decorated in Caribbean style with plenty of natural materials, including handmade bamboo furniture and decorations crafted by local artisans.
Each Villa Room features a king-size bed or two twin beds, air conditioning, Wi-Fi, a minibar, coffee and tea-making facilities, and a spacious bathroom with a rain shower. On the private terrace, you can enjoy the tranquility of the rainforest and the sounds of tropical birds. Depending on the location, you’ll have a view of the lush gardens or a partial view of the Caribbean Sea.
For those who want extra space, larger Villa Suites are also available for an additional fee. These suites are about twice the size of the Villa Rooms and feature a separate sitting area and a more spacious terrace. Both the rooms and suites are designed with respect for nature and align seamlessly with Jungle Bay’s sustainable philosophy.
The island of Dominica
Dominica is known as the “Nature Island” of the Caribbean, and for good reason. The island is rugged, green and pristine, with a landscape dominated by dense rainforests, volcanic mountains and deep valleys. More than half of the island is protected nature reserve, giving flora and fauna plenty of space here.
Scattered around the island you will find countless waterfalls, hot springs and rivers, there are even 365 of them, one for each day of the year. Inland is the impressive Morne Trois Pitons National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site with volcanic lakes and spectacular hiking trails.
You can also see the influence of volcanic nature underwater, with unique dive sites and rich marine life. Dominica still feels authentic and pure, far away from mass tourism. Here everything is about nature, tranquility and adventure, both above and below water.

Nature Island Dive
During this trip, you’ll dive with Nature Island Dive. The dive center is located less than a five-minute drive from the resort, in the heart of the protected Soufrière Scotts Head Marine Reserve. Thanks to this convenient location, you can reach most dive sites within a few minutes by boat.
The dive school deliberately works with small groups. This allows for a strong focus on safety, comfort, and creating a relaxed diving experience. The experienced team knows the waters around Dominica like no other and is happy to share their knowledge of the local marine life and the island’s unique volcanic geology.
Nature Island Dive has two well-equipped dive boats and offers excellent service for divers. Your diving gear is prepared, rinsed, and stored for you, so you don’t have to worry about a thing. The dive center has over 30 years of experience in the Marine Reserve and also plays an active role in various initiatives related to marine conservation and coral restoration.

Frequently asked questions about this diving holiday
Diving general
The dives are suitable from an Open Water certification, there are plenty of dive sites with a maximum depth of less than 18 meters. There are also enough dive sites for more experienced divers. Something for everyone!
During the first few days, you’ll be diving from the boat. These dives will include a mix of reef dives, deeper dives, and dives along drop-offs. There is often little to no current.
There are 20 dive sites in the immediate vicinity of the dive school, all about a 15-minute boat ride away.
You can go on two dives a day here.
It is possible to go on night dives, but they are not included as standard in your dive package. A night dive costs $90, which is approximately € 80.
It’s also worth noting that during the high season (November–April), at least 4 divers are required for the dive to take place, and during the low season (May–October), 6 divers are required.
No, there is no house reef at the dive shop.
Yes, that’s definitely possible. SSI courses are offered.
Yes, the dive school is a 5-minute drive from the resort. You’ll be picked up every day and taken to the dive school, and brought back at the end of the day. This is included in your dive package.
No, it’s not possible to dive with sperm whales anyway. In addition, the dive school doesn’t offer whale-watching tours or snorkeling with whales. Are you interested in these activities? Then check out this trip, where you’ll stay at a different resort in Dominica and have the chance to see the enormous whales up close.
Diving equipment
Both tanks are present, including adapters.
No, but there are larger tanks. The standard tank size is 80 cu ft (11 liters). A larger tank is 100 cu ft (13 liters), and it costs $5 per tank. That works out to about € 4.
No, there is no nitrox available.
Yes, the cost for a full set (without a computer) is 25 USD per day (€ 22). Renting a dive computer costs 10 USD per day (€ 9).
Resort
Jungle Bay has an ocean view, but it is not located directly on the beach. You can go to the beach at Scott’s Head (an 8-minute drive) or Champagne Beach (a 15-minute drive). Most beaches in Dominica are rocky or consist of natural black volcanic sand.
If you’d like to go swimming, you can do so in the ocean, the resort’s pool, or at a local waterfall.
Yes, Wi-Fi is available throughout the resort. You can use it for free.
Yes, Jungle Bay has its own restaurant where you can eat indoors or outdoors. There’s also a lounge.
Yes, there are two swimming pools and a whirlpool.

No, Jungle Bay is located on a hill. That’s why we don’t recommend it if you have difficulty walking.
One on-site excursion is included as part of your stay. You can choose from a Caribbean Cooking Class, a Herbal Presentation, or yoga. As the name suggests, this is an excursion held at the resort itself, and you can often participate after diving.
