Liveaboard diving & two-week round trip
Thailand has been one of Asia’s most popular destinations for years, and on this trip you’ll discover exactly why. This unique combination of a liveaboard and roundtrip will introduce you to both the impressive underwater world and the versatility of the country above water.
Your adventure begins with a five-day liveaboard to the world-famous Similan Islands, Koh Bon, Koh Tachai and Richelieu Rock. These diving areas are among the best in Thailand and are known for their crystal clear waters, colorful coral reefs and the chance to encounter manta rays, turtles, reef sharks and even whale sharks. While spending the night aboard the MV Aqua, you will discover new dive sites daily and enjoy the comfort of a floating hotel in the middle of the sea.
After the liveaboard, the journey continues on the mainland. From Khao Lak, you travel to the impressive Khao Sok National Park, where ancient rainforest, limestone rock formations and the beautiful Cheow Lan Lake provide a completely different side of Thailand. Then the tropical beaches of Phuket and Krabi await, where idyllic islands, hidden lagoons and azure waters set the stage for relaxation and new adventures.
The journey ends in and around Bangkok. You will visit iconic temples, colorful markets, the former capital Ayutthaya and verdant Kanchanaburi, known for its impressive history and beautiful nature.
This trip is the perfect combination of diving, nature, culture and relaxation. A varied adventure in which you will discover the most beautiful sides of Thailand, both above and under water.
Best travel time for a tour in Thailand
The diving season in the Similan Islands runs from mid-October to mid-May, with the best conditions between November and April. During this period, the sea is generally calm and visibility is often excellent, regularly exceeding 30 meters. February and March offer the best chance of seeing larger marine animals such as manta rays and whale sharks.
This is also the ideal travel time for the rest of the trip, such as Khao Sok, Phuket, Krabi and Bangkok. The dry season provides pleasant temperatures, little rain and perfect conditions for exploring both nature and culture comfortably.
Average temperatures
Wetsuit advice for Thailand
Since the water in Thailand is very pleasant, a shorty or 3mm is more than enough.

Day 1 & 2 | Travel to Phuket & board the Aqua
Today you will fly to Phuket. Depending on the airline you choose, you will travel direct or make a stopover, often in Dubai, Doha or Singapore. Allow for a total travel time of about 17 to 19 hours, including any transfer time.
After arriving at Phuket airport, a transfer will be waiting for you to take you to Thap Lamu Pier. Here you will board the MV Aqua Liveaboard, which will be your home at sea for the next few days.
After checking in on board, you will enjoy your first dinner while getting acquainted with the crew and your fellow divers. This is followed by the first briefings, in which safety procedures, the dive program and life on board are discussed, among other things. Once all preparations are complete, the boat leaves port and sets sail for the Similan Islands. While you enjoy the evening at sea, you set sail for the first dive sites of this special liveaboard.
Day 3 - 5 | Diving around Similan Islands & Richelieu Rock
The next few days are entirely devoted to diving in one of Thailand’s most spectacular diving areas. You will make three to four dives daily on the famous dive sites of the Similan Islands, Koh Bon, Koh Tachai and the world-famous Richelieu Rock.
The Similan Islands are known for their impressive granite rock formations, crystal clear waters and healthy coral reefs. Underwater, colorful coral gardens, large boulders and swim-throughs alternate. Here you can encounter schools of fusiliers, barracudas, reef sharks, turtles and numerous tropical reef fish.
Further north are Koh Bon and Koh Tachai, two dive sites known for their strong currents and high chance of encounters with pelagic species. With some luck, you will spot eagle rays, manta rays and large schools of hunting predatory fish here. In particular, Tachai Pinnacle is considered one of Thailand’s best dive sites because of its enormous fish diversity and spectacular underwater scenery.
An absolute highlight of the trip is Richelieu Rock. This horseshoe-shaped underwater rock rises from the depths and is among the most famous dive sites in Southeast Asia. Fully covered with colorful soft corals, the rock is a magnet for marine life. Large schools of snappers, barracudas and trevallies pass by here, while among the corals you can look for seahorses, ghost whistle fish, angler fish and various species of nudibranchs. In the right season, Richelieu Rock is also among the best places in the world to spot whale sharks.
During the liveaboard, you typically make three to four dives per day. Some days also include a night dive, where you will experience the reef in a completely different way. Once the sun sets, many nocturnal animals emerge and the marine life changes completely. This makes every day different and makes for an unforgettable diving experience.
In the FAQ you will find an example of the daily program on board, including dive times.
Day 6 & 7 | Diving & transfer to Khao Lak
Today is the last day of the liveaboard, but two more dives are scheduled!
Around 11:30 the last lunch will be ready and in the afternoon the boat will arrive back at the port. Then you will be transferred to your hotel in Khao Lak, where you will stay for the next two nights.
Khao Lak is a relaxing coastal town on the Andaman Sea, known for its long sandy beaches, green nature and peaceful atmosphere. Unlike the busier beach resorts in Thailand, here you will find a friendly environment where you can unwind from adventures at sea. Take a walk on the beach, enjoy a massage or end the day with a sunset dinner overlooking the ocean. The area is also the perfect base for exploring national parks, waterfalls and tropical rainforests.
Day 8 & 9 | Khao Sok National Park
After breakfast, check out of the hotel and travel towards the impressive Khao Sok National Park, one of the oldest rainforests in the world. Upon arrival, check into an atmospheric boutique jungle or lakeside resort in the middle of nature. You have the rest of the day to explore the area at your own pace. Take a walk through the jungle, enjoy the peace and quiet or simply relax amidst the tropical sounds of the rainforest. You will spend the night in Khao Sok, surrounded by spectacular nature.
The next morning starts early for a special day trip to the famous Cheow Lan Lake. From the hotel you will depart by minibus to the Rajjaprabha Dam, where a traditional longtail boat awaits you. During the boat ride, you will sail past imposing limestone rock formations that rise high above the emerald green water.
Along the way, there are several stops to take photos and enjoy the view. Then you head into the jungle for a hike through the ancient rainforest of Khao Sok National Park. Together with a guide, you will discover the special flora and fauna of the area and visit a cave full of impressive stalactites and stalagmites.
After the hike, enjoy a traditional Thai lunch at a floating restaurant on the lake. Then there is time to swim, kayak or just relax with views of the surrounding jungle and limestone peaks. In the afternoon you will sail back to the pier and be taken back to the hotel, arriving around 6:00 pm after a day of nature and adventure.
Day 10 to 12 | Phuket & Phi Phi Islands
On day 10, you say goodbye to the green interior of Khao Sok and travel to Phuket, Thailand’s largest island. Phuket is known for its beautiful beaches, lively atmosphere and excellent restaurants. Upon arrival, check into an attractive boutique beach resort, where you are free to spend the rest of the day. Take a walk on the beach, enjoy a relaxing massage or admire the sunset over the Andaman Sea.
Day 11 is dedicated to one of Thailand’s most beautiful island groups: the Phi Phi Islands. During this excursion you will discover impressive limestone cliffs rising from the clear blue water, idyllic bays and white sandy beaches. Along the way, there is ample opportunity to snorkel among colorful tropical fish, swim in crystal clear waters and enjoy the spectacular views for which these islands are so famous.
On Day 12, you’ll be back in Phuket and have plenty of time to fill the day as you wish. Relax at the beach, visit one of the cozy beach clubs, enjoy a spa treatment or explore the charming streets of Phuket Old Town, where colorful Sino-Portuguese buildings are reminders of the island’s rich past.
Day 13 to 15 | Krabi: limestone cliffs and tropical islands
On Day 13 you travel from Phuket to Krabi, a region known worldwide for its spectacular landscape of limestone rock formations, hidden coves and paradisiacal beaches. After arriving at your beach resort, you can relax or explore bustling Ao Nang. This lively coastal town offers a relaxed atmosphere, great restaurants and stunning views of the sea and surrounding islets.
The next day, you will discover some of the most beautiful islands off the coast of Krabi on the famous 4 Islands Tour. You will visit Phra Nang Cave Beach, Chicken Island, Tup Island and Poda Island, among others. Along the way, you will sail by traditional longtail boat past impressive rock formations and snow-white beaches. There is plenty of opportunity to swim, snorkel and enjoy the tropical surroundings.
On day 15, a visit to Hong Island is on the program. This nature reserve is among the most beautiful places in southern Thailand. You will explore a hidden lagoon surrounded by steep limestone cliffs and cruise through clear waters that invite swimming and kayaking. The quiet beaches and unspoiled nature make this day one of the highlights of your stay in Krabi.
Day 16 & 17 | Bangkok: culture and local traditions
On day 16, you’ll trade the tropical beaches for the bustling capital city of Bangkok. The easiest way to get here is with a short domestic flight of about an hour and a half.
Upon arrival, you’ll explore some of the city’s most famous sights. You will visit the impressive Grand Palace, for centuries the residence of Thai kings, the famous Wat Pho with its giant reclining Buddha and the iconic temple Wat Arun, beautifully situated on the banks of the Chao Phraya River. In the evening, enjoy an atmospheric dinner cruise on the river, seeing Bangkok from a completely different perspective as the illuminated skyline slowly passes you by.
Day 17 is all about local life outside the city. You visit the colorful Damnoen Saduak Floating Market, where traders sell their products from traditional wooden boats. Then you travel on to the extraordinary Maeklong Railway Market. Here the market stalls are literally situated along the railroad tracks and the awnings are folded down at lightning speed as soon as a train passes. This unique experience gives a fascinating insight into daily life in Thailand.
Day 18 | Ayutthaya & Kanchanaburi
After breakfast, depart Bangkok for Ayutthaya, the former capital of the Siamese kingdom and today one of Thailand’s most important historical sites. During your visit you will admire impressive temple ruins, ancient stupas and historical monuments that recall the glory days of this mighty kingdom. You’ll visit Wat Mahathat, famous for the Buddha’s head intertwined with the roots of a tree, Wat Phra Sri Sanphet and the sprawling Ayutthaya Historical Park, among others.
After the visit, you will travel on to Kanchanaburi, a province known for its beautiful nature, rich history and relaxed atmosphere. After arriving at the hotel, you can spend the rest of the day at leisure.
Day 19 | Erawan National Park & waterfalls
Today you will discover one of Thailand’s most beautiful natural areas. In Erawan National Park you will visit the famous Erawan Waterfall, an impressive waterfall that consists of seven levels and winds its way through the tropical rainforest. The clear blue water and natural pools invite you to take a refreshing dip, while several hiking trails offer beautiful views of the surrounding nature.
Afterwards, you will return to Kanchanaburi. Kanchanaburi is not only loved for its nature, but also plays an important role in Thailand’s history. The region is known for the famous Bridge on the River Kwai and the historic Death Railway, which was built during World War II. It is an impressive place where there is a place for history. There are several museums and cemeteries that take you back in time.
Day 20 & 21 | Return home
After breakfast, this varied round trip slowly comes to an end. You check out of the hotel and are transferred to Bangkok airport for your return flight. With wonderful memories of tropical islands, impressive temples, green jungles, hospitable people and unforgettable experiences, you say goodbye to Thailand. Hopefully you look back on a trip full of special moments that will stay with you for a long time.
