Wetsuit advice for diving in Komodo

A 3mm will almost always be sufficient, if you get cold really quickly you can consider a 5mm.

What will you experience on this trip?

Day 1 & 2 | Trip to Bali

Today you fly toward Bali. Depending if it’s a direct flight and possibly with a change in Singapore, you’ll be on the road for about 17-19 hours.

Upon arrival on Day 2 in Bali, you will stay one more night in Bali to rest before your flight to Komodo. Would you like to stay longer in Bali beforehand (or afterwards), for example to dive or take some excursions? This, of course, is possible.

Day 3 | Flight from Bali to Komodo

Today you fly to Labuan Bajo on Flores. This domestic flight is direct and often you are in the air for about 1 hour and 10 minutes. Upon arrival in Labuan Bajo on the island of Flores, you will be welcomed by a local representative of the Komodo Resort.

From the airport you will be taken to the port for a boattransfer leaving at 12:45 p.m. for the Komodo Resort. The crossing takes about 1 hour. Sailing time depends a bit on the boat sailing that day.

Once you arrive at the resort, check in and spend the rest of the day relaxing, book a massage at the spa, for example and take care of the administrative side at the dive center at your leisure of Sebayur Dive.

Day 4 - 10 | Diving in Komodo

The next 7 days are all about diving. You will make two dives daily with Sebayur Dive (5* PADI), based at the Komodo Resort. The resort’s five specially designed dive boats ensure that every dive is a success. Divers are divided into small groups based on their experience.

Diving highlights in Komodo include Batu Bolong, a hotspot for vibrant coral reefs and vibrant marine life and Manta Point, where you will come face to face with majestic manta rays. There are also breathtaking dive sites such as Castle Rock and Crystal Rock, each with their unique biodiversity. The rich coral formations, home to pygmy seahorses and exotic nudibranchs, offer a visual spectacle at many of the dive sites. At Komodo you see big and small stuff.

Diving in Komodo means that you will often encounter drift diving. Currents are a constant factor here, changing by day, hour and even by dive. But it is precisely these currents that make Komodo so unique and vibrant. They bring nutrients that are essential to marine life here. Plankton, the main food for corals and small fish, attracts larger predators such as sharks, tuna and barracudas. Giant manta rays and even whale sharks are also coming down on the plankton. The strong currents in Komodo enrich the marine life, which is precisely what makes diving so spectacular.

Day 11 | Komodo Monitor lizards

You can’t dive today (because you’re flying tomorrow). For today, the resort has two perfect alternatives you can book to end your diving vacation in Komodo National Park well.

Komodo trek on Padar & Rinca with peak climbing: Treat yourself to an adventurous day by exploring the majestic landscapes of Padar and Rinca. Two islands in Komodo National Park. Rinca best known for the Komodo Dragons. Along the way you will enjoy panoramic views, and chances are you will encounter Komodo dragons in their natural habitat.

Sunset Bat Flight on Rinca: There is no better way to end your day than to witness the spectacle of thousands of “Flying Foxes” bats silhouetted against the evening sky. As the sun’s rays give way to the colorful hues of sunset, Rinca awakens to life.

Day 12 & 13 | Return home

After breakfast departure at 08:30 to Labuan Bajo for your first flight back to Bali or possibly Jakarta. From Bali or Jakarta it is usually a night flight back to home.

Don’t you want to go home yet? No problem, several extensions are available. So you can extend the trip with a few more days of Bali – go in search of the Mola Molas at Nusa Lembongan, for example. Sulawesi is also an option – or the famous Raja Ampat, but these options still require a bit more (travel) time. Feel free to ask us about the possibilities, we are happy to think with you.
