Liveboard Belize Aggressor – Diving the barrier reef & the Blue Hole
Travel period

Starting from
Belize Liveaboard - the best of the barrier reef with the Aggressor IV
Belize is a true paradise for divers. This is partly because here is the second largest barrier reef in the world: the Belize Barrier Reef. A barrier reef is a large coral reef that lies parallel to the coast, but is separated from it by open water. It forms a natural barrier, so to speak, between the open sea and the land.
Think wall diving with steep drop-offs adorned with red gorgonians and giant elephant-ear sponges. You’ll explore the remote Lighthouse Reef and the protected Half Moon Caye, among others, where morays, crawfish and dart crabs hide in every crevice, tunnel and cave.
And, of course, the world-famous Blue Hole, which is on the bucket list of many divers. This circular sinkhole is some 300 meters wide, 124 meters deep and is filled with giant stalacites that you swim past.
The marine life is exceptionally rich and varied. Schools of parrotfish, eagle rays and turtles color the shallow reefs, while pelagic species such as hammerheads, nurse sharks and large jacks often show themselves in the deeper zones.
You will stay aboard the Belize Aggressor IV, one of the best liveaboards in the world. This luxury vessel is fully equipped for divers: from spacious air-conditioned cabins to a sun deck, Jacuzzi and professionally equipped diving platform. The experienced crew is known for their hospitality and knowledge of the region, allowing you to enjoy world-class diving carefree every day.
Best travel time for a diving vacation to Belize
Diving in Belize is actually possible all year round, but the best months for a liveaboard are from March through June. During this period, the sea is calm, visibility is often over 30 meters and marine life is most active. You then have the greatest chance of seeing pelagic species such as sharks, rays and spawning groupers. The weather is also most stable then, which is perfect for longer trips to remote atolls such as Lighthouse Reef and Glover’s Reef.
Average Temperatures
Wetsuit advice for diving in Belize
The water temperature in Belize rarely drops below 26°C. A 3mm wetsuit is usually sufficient year-round. The dives can be a bit longer, so if you get cold quickly it is recommended to bring a 5mm wetsuit.

Day 1 + 2 | Travel to Belize
Today you will fly to Belize City. There are several options to fly to Belize from Europe. You often make a stopover in Panama or Mexico and the flight takes a total of 15 to 17 hours.
The time difference (7-8 hours earlier in Belize) makes it feel like you’re on the road longer, but you leave on day 1 and arrive on day 2.
Upon arrival in Belize, you will be picked up and taken directly to the boat. Here you will be introduced to the Belize Aggressor IV, your home for the next week. At 6:00 p.m. the boat leaves for the first dive site, but you will not be diving this day.
Dinner will be served around 6:30 p.m., followed by a welcome briefing and safety instructions. You can get acquainted with the other divers and recover nicely from the trip you have made.
Day 3 - 7 | Diving the most beautiful places in Belize
For the next 5 days you will dive the most beautiful spots in Belize. Diving from the livaboard is relaxed, varied and comfortable. You will make up to 5 dives per day and night dives are often possible. The Belize Aggressor IV takes you to remote places such as Lighthouse Reef, Turneffe Atoll and Glover’s Reef, areas that are difficult to access from the mainland.
You make the dives mainly from the boat, but there is also a zodiac that can take you to the dive site. Visibility is often excellent (20-40 meters) and the water temperature is between 25 and 28 degrees Celsius.
Well-known dive sites you might go to:
The Blue Hole – World-famous sinkhole cave with huge stalactites at 30 meters depth; mysterious and impressive, especially for experienced divers.
Half Moon Caye Wall – A spectacular drop-off with colorful corals, schools of fish and often sea turtles. An ideal spot for photographs.
Quebrada – Steep reef with deep crevices, caves and lots of current. More likely to see larger species such as sharks and barracudas.
Silver Caves – Caves and ledges full of silver fish, such as horse-eye jacks. A perfect spot for wide-angle photography.
Painted Wall – Known for its many corals, fan gorgonians and schools of reef fish, you often spot seahorses and turtles.
Shark Point – One of the more rugged and remote sites with a chance of hammerhead sharks, tiger sharks and large groupers.
Glover’s Reef – Pristine atoll with hundreds of coral pinnacles, clear water, lots of macro life as well as pelagic species.
You make the first dive before breakfast, so you can have a nice breakfast right after the dive. Lunch is buffet style.
In the evening there are presentations on fish identifications, film, games and more. And, of course, there will also be a 4-course dinner waiting for you each evening where you will be served at the table.
Day 8 | Last dives and return to port
Today you will make the last dives of this liveaboard. In the early morning you will enter the water twice more on the Belize Barrier Reef – a perfect conclusion to an impressive diving week.
After the dives, you can relax while the crew serves you a delicious lunch. Meanwhile, the boat sets sail back towards Belize City, where you will arrive during the afternoon.
Around 5:30 p.m., the team will host a fun Guest Appreciation Cocktail Party on board. This is the time to look back with the crew and your fellow divers on all the experiences of the past few days.
For dinner, you can choose: stay on board or go ashore (at your own expense) to enjoy local cuisine in one of the city’s cozy restaurants.
Day 9 | Farewell to the boat & home
After a final breakfast on board, it’s really time to say goodbye. Your belongings are already packed and the transfer is ready to take you back to the airport. Usually this is around 8 in the morning.
Not ready to go home yet? Then you can also extend your trip with a tour of Belize and stay a little longer. In the interior of Belize you will find rain forests, mysterious caves and impressive Mayan temples such as Caracol and Xunantunich. It is the perfect change after your diving adventure: tranquility, nature and a touch of culture.
Highlights of this trip
What can you expect from the underwater world in Belize?
The Blue Hole
The Blue Hole is Belize’s most famous dive site and an iconic part of the Lighthouse Reef. This nearly perfect circle of deep blue water was created from a collapsed underwater cave and has an impressive diameter of some 300 meters. During the descent, you will see giant stalactites from 30 meters deep, a relic of the time when the cave was above water. Although there is little coral and fish life, the geological formations and mystical atmosphere make this deep dive unforgettable.
Sharks at Shark Point
Shark Point is one of the more remote dive sites around the atoll and is visited only when weather conditions permit. It is an open, unsheltered site with a high chance of seeing groupers. Several species of sharks are regularly seen here, including nurse sharks, blacktip sharks, hammerheads and tiger sharks. Sharks often swim along the sloping white sand channels and above the coral colonies.
Belize Barrier Reef
Glover’s Reef is an oval-shaped atoll some 43 km from the mainland and part of the Belize Barrier Reef. The protected area has more than 800 coral structures in a clear lagoon and is part of the UNESCO World Heritage Site. Thanks to its remote location, many reefs and islets have barely been explored and are exceptionally well preserved. Diving here means shallow walls, healthy coral gardens and chances of seeing large marine life such as sharks and rays.
