Liveaboard diving vacations in Egypt
The liveaboard concept is a unique way to dive and allows divers to take their diving experience to the next level. Unlike a day trip to a dive site, divers stay aboard a liveaboard ship for several days and explore various dive sites in the area. This gives divers the chance to discover a wide range of underwater landscapes, coral reefs and marine animals.
Liveaboards are generally well equipped with modern diving equipment, and have facilities such as a dive deck, decompression chamber and comfortable accommodations for guests. It’s a great way to dive without worrying about logistics, as everything is taken care of by the ship’s crew, from meals to transportation to and from the dive sites.
Egypt is one of the best destinations in the world for liveaboard diving trips, and the country offers several areas to explore. The three most popular liveaboard diving areas in Egypt are the wrecks route in the northern Red Sea, BDE, St. Johns & Fury Shoals.
Northern wrecks route: The wrecks route in the northern Red Sea is probably the most famous liveaboard route in Egypt. The area is known for its many shipwrecks dating back to World War II and the era of shipping. The most famous of these wrecks is the Thistlegorm, a cargo ship sunk by a German bomb in 1941. Divers can explore the wreck of the Thistlegorm and see cargo remains, such as tanks and motorcycles, lying on the bottom. In addition to wreck diving, the wreck route also offers beautiful coral reefs and an abundance of marine life, including sharks, rays and turtles. The level of diving on this itinerary ranges from beginner to advanced.
BDE: BDE stands for Brothers, Daedalus and Elphinstone, three reefs in the southern part of the Red Sea. The reefs are famous for their abundant marine life, including sharks, dolphins, turtles and large pelagic fish. It is an area ideal for advanced divers because of the strong currents and deeper dive sites. Daedalus Reef is the most famous of the three, due to its abundance of marine life and beautiful coral formations. There are several dive spots around the reef where divers can spot large schools of tuna, barracuda and hammerhead sharks.
St. Johns and Fury Shoals: St. Johns Reef, located in the south of Marsa Alam, is one of the most remote dive sites in the Red Sea. Here you will find the most beautiful coral reefs and pristine marine life. The reef is large enough to explore for several days, and you’ll find schools of fish, turtles, rays and sharks, among other things.
Fury Shoals is a group of coral reefs about halfway between Marsa Alam and Hamata. One of the most remote and pristine diving areas in Egypt, it offers many dive sites such as Shaab Claude, Malahi, Gota Sataya and Wadi Gemal. These spots offer a fantastic variety of marine life, beautiful coral gardens, pinnacles and caves.
