Diving in Indonesia

If you want to dive in Indonesia, the possibilities are almost endless. From famous Bali to remote islets in the far corners of Indonesia. Both the destinations and types of diving in Indonesia offer something for everyone.
For example, you can do challenging drift dives at Komodo or relaxing dives at Manado. Diving in a remote area such as Raja Ampat or touristy Bali.

Because of Indonesia’s location in the middle of the equator, its waters are tropically warm, and its variety of coral and fish species is one of the greatest in the world. So when you go diving in Indonesia, you are also sure to see many and different species of fish and dive with ideal conditions!

Diving in Sulawesi

Due to its location in the middle of Sulawesi and the island’s strange shape, the island of Sulawesi has a wide variety of diving areas. If you are going diving in Indonesia, Sulawesi should definitely be on your list.

For example, in northern Sulawesi is Manado, which is best known for the beautiful and colorful coral reefs of Bunaken Island. Swirling fish, intense colors and a wide range of dive sites.

Right next to Manado is Lembeh and diving here is totally different from the colorful dives of Manado. Diving at Lembeh is mainly on black sand. The shallow bottom of the strait along Lembeh Island is home to numerous alien-looking fish and crustaceans. Whether it is a ghost whale, a fluorescent nudibranch or a seahorse, they are all perfectly camouflaged and feature bizarre shapes. Therefore, diving at Lembeh is mainly done if you want to see lots of species of weird critters.

Of all the dives in Indonesia, Lembeh is an outlier because of the type of diving.

Manado and Lembeh are Sulawesi’s most famous diving areas but practically in every corner of Sulawesi you can dive. so you can make beautiful macro dives at Wakatobi or at Prince John. Bangka, which lies between Manado and Lembeh, also offers surprisingly fun dives.

Diving Bali

Few know that the Island of the Gods also offers excellent diving. Bali has several good diving opportunities all along the coast. At Lembongan, for example, you can look for manta rays and mola molas. At Amed, you dive straight from the black beach to the coral reefs just offshore. In the northwest corner of Bali, you can dive at the macro paradise of Menjangan.

Diving Komodo

Diving at Komodo is always exciting. Not only do you make beautiful drift dives and dives along drop offs here. Also, during the dives you will be amazed at the species diversity and quantity of fish at each dive site! Manta rays, schools of barracuda and wobbegong can all be encountered. And of course, a visit to the Komodo dragon should not be missed!

Liveaboards Indonesia

Diving Indonesia is not just limited to staying on an island in a resort. One of the best ways to get the most out of a diving vacation in Indonesia is with a liveaboard. Not only do you make more dives but you dive in more different places.

With a liveaboard you will get the most out of your diving in Indonesia!

The best-known routes are from Bali to Komodo, a liveaboard along the Sunda Islands to Alor. From Alor, you can take a liveaboard across the Moluccas to Raja Ampat. Several routes are sailed at Raja Ampat with a large number of liveaboards. You can also dive lesser-known places in Indonesia with a liveaboard such as Wakatobi or Halmahera.

Diving in Raja Ampat

Raja Ampat is scientifically the area with the greatest variety of species. Nowhere else in the world were so many species counted while diving than in Raja Ampat. Therefore, diving at Raja Ampat is actually a must for all divers!
